Airborne Brigade

Airborne brigades are large units of airborne troops .

The brigade is airborne . It is divided further into mostly associations and brigade units of different branches of service . The fighting core, however, is usually made up of paratroopers or light and therefore airmobile fighter battalions . After being dismounted, airborne brigades fight similarly to fighter brigades .

In the army , after rearmament in 1956 in Eßlingen am Neckar, the only short-lived 106th Airborne Brigade was planned. It was quickly reclassified to the 1st Airborne Division to take over Army Structure II . The paratrooper brigades 25 and 26, which emerged from the airborne combat groups A9 and B9, which had been set up by 1957 , were subordinate to the airborne division. They were initially referred to as parachute brigades, since the equipment of the brigade units and the heavy paratrooper companies could not be parachuted, but could only be dropped by helicopters .

The paratrooper brigades were renamed to airborne brigades in 1971 to take over Army Structure III . In Westphalia , the 27th Airborne Brigade was reorganized. The 1st Airborne Division led the following airborne brigades from the 1970s:

In 1993, Airborne Brigade 31 was created through the reorganization and merger of Airborne Brigade 27 and Panzergrenadierbrigade 31 . From 1994 the newly established command airmobile forces / 4. Division the airborne brigades. The 25th Airborne Brigade was decommissioned in 1996. From 2001 to the end of 2013, the airborne brigades were subordinate to the Special Operations Division. The 11 Luchtmobiele Brigade (11th Air Mobile Brigade) is the major association of Dutch paratroopers. The Dutch Airborne Brigade is integrated into the German Rapid Forces Division .
