Wolfgang Rosam

The Falstaff Publishing is an international publisher with headquarters in Vienna . Its history goes back to the Weinjournal magazine founded in 1980 . After Wolfgang Rosam took over the majority shares from Hans Dibold and Helmut Romé in 2010, the company was gradually expanded. Today (as of 2019) the Falstaff-Verlag is active in the entire German-speaking area, both with its print products and with the Internet portals.

history

Falstaff was founded in 1980 as a wine journal. The founding editors Hans Dibold and Helmut Romé campaigned for Austrian red wine in the first few years as part of the Falstaff Red Wine Prize, which was launched in the founding year, in order to promote its quality. The Falstaff editors rated the wines according to the international 100-point system and made the Falstaff points the benchmark in the Austrian wine world. In 2009 Wolfgang Rosam increased his shares in Falstaff Verlag from 25 to 100 percent.

In 2010 there was a relaunch , the magazine got a new layout and at the same time a web portal was introduced with www.falstaff.at.

In September of the same year the first German edition of the Falstaff Verlag appeared. In 2013 the first Falstaff LIVING was published, edited by Angelika Rosam. The first Falstaff Switzerland edition was published in 2014. Titles like Man's World or Falstaff Karriere (later Falstaff Profi ) were added. The first cookbook from the Falstaff Edition was published in 2015 and the Falstaff recipe magazine was published in 2018.

Falstaff Magazin Deutschland appears eight times a year, the circulation is over 50,000 and is IVW- tested.

Switzerland

The first Falstaff Switzerland edition was published in 2014. The Falstaff Switzerland edition appears 8 times a year and is designed by Swiss editors. The content is adapted to Swiss interests and needs.

Living

The design magazine Living has been published since 2013 , a platform for everything to do with interiors, real estate and international trends in the upscale living area. The magazine has been published six times a year since 2019.

Man's World

Falstaff-Verlag has been issuing its own line extension for the male target group since autumn 2014. It is published annually and the topics cover the areas of People & Fashion , Gourmet & Wine , Body & Soul and Lifestyle & Toys for Boys .

Recipes

The first Falstaff recipe magazine was published in 2018; these recipe collections appear four times a year.

Wine Guide

The Falstaff Wine Guide, which has been published annually since 1997, is considered to be the standard work for top wines from Austria and South Tyrol. The volume has grown over the years to around 900 pages, currently (as of 2019) with over 500 wineries and around 4,000 wines rated. The wineries are awarded up to five stars and their products are rated according to the international 100-point system.

Red wine guide

The annual Falstaff Red Wine Guide lists the respective overall results of the Austrian Falstaff Red Wine Award. The Falstaff Red Wine Prize was launched in 1980. The prizes are awarded at the annual red wine gala in the Vienna Hofburg .

Restaurant guide

In 2006 the first Falstaff restaurant guide was published, based on guest ratings. Back then, the basis was the “VIPGOURMETclub”; today it is the around 20,000 members of the Falstaff Gourmet Club who rate the restaurants. The rating is based on a system with a maximum of 100 points and four forks.

Bar & spirits guide

The best bars in Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as the best spirits that are produced or available in these countries are described and rated. Tasting notes and ratings should give consumers and connoisseurs an easily comparable idea of ​​the product in question.

Line extensions and other publications

The Falstaff product portfolio has grown significantly since 2013. The result is a series of slow travel guides with tips and recipes through to collectibles and small-format booklets that have appeared in special editions.

Gourmet club

The Falstaff Gourmet Club was founded in 2004 by Wolfgang Rosam with the aim of democratizing restaurant criticism. Austrian Airlines, T-Mobile, Wiener Städtische Versicherung and Erste Bank act as partner companies of the Falstaff Gourmet Club. Their selected top customers were personally invited to become members of the Falstaff Gourmet Club free of charge. These members rate restaurants they have visited on points throughout the year. The reviews are curated and the results are published in the annual restaurant guide.

Events

Falstaff's event professionals organize events with up to 2,000 visitors. The Falstaff dinners already have national and international guest chefs. The Falstaff White Wine Gala, the Falstaff Red Wine Gala, the Falstaff Champagne Gala and the Vienna Bar & Spirits Festival have already become a tradition

Falstaff professional

Falstaff Profi is a German-language specialist magazine for the hotel , catering and tourism industry that appears six times a year and has been published since 2015. The editors are Wolfgang M. Rosam and Alexandra Gorsche, and Alexandra Gorsche has been the editor-in-chief since 2015. The magazine shows successful business models and concepts, illustrates design and interior solutions and has tips and tricks ready for applicants as well as employers. Each issue has a career section with employer presentations. The online partner of the Falstaff PROFI magazine in the field of job advertisements is Yourcareergroup, to which the job portals Hotelcareer and Gastrojobs belong.

Since 2015, Falstaff PROFI has also been the organizer of the “Falstaff Young Talents Cup”, a competition for young talent for the hotel and catering industry. In addition to a portrait in the Falstaff PROFI magazine, the winners have the opportunity to take a stage at a top international chef or at a prestigious industry event. To date, the jury has included a. Professional chefs like Mike Süsser , Johann Lafer , Silvio Nickol , Andreas Senn and Maria Groß . In the course of this competition, well-deserved industry representatives are honored for their life's work every year, including Eckart Witzigmann , Heinz Winkler and Otto Koch .

Hotel Collection

In December 2018, the company founded the Falstaff Hotel Collection, a subsidiary in which the Viennese Falstaff Verlags-GmbH holds 55 percent. The other 45 percent is held by Nadine Tschiderer with Masterpiece Productions GmbH based in Innsbruck. In April 2019, the Falstaff Hotel Collection presented a selected selection of Hotels & Resorts to an international audience online for the first time.
