Faouzia Ouihya , known as Faouzia (born July 5, 2000 in Casablanca ) is a Canadian - Moroccan singer-songwriter .

life and career

Faouzia moved with her family to Notre Dame de Lourdes (Manitoba) and later to Carman when she was five years old . She won the Audience Award, the Song of the Year Award and the Grand Prix at the La chicane Éléctrique music festival in 2015 . She published her own songs and covers of well-known hits on YouTube and was then signed to the ParadigmTalent Agency label .

In 2016 she reached second place in the Emerging Artist Mentorship Program at Canada's Walk of Fame in Toronto . In 2017 she also received the Grand Prize at the Unsigned Only music competition in Nashville . Also in 2017, she collaborated with the Manitoban artist Matt Epp on the single The Sound and won the International Songwriting Competition and were the first Canadians to win this award, defeating around 16,000 songwriters from 137 different countries. Faouzia performed with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra at The Forks in Winnipeg in 2017 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation .

She can be heard in the song Battle by David Guetta on his album 7 , which was released in 2018. French rapper Ninho recorded the song Money with her, which went gold in July 2019.

Faouzia speaks English, French and Arabic fluently.

Since 2015 she has published singles at irregular intervals, often with an accompanying music video. One of Faouzia's unique selling points is that she often publishes unfinished versions of planned songs, so-called work in progress versions, on her social media channels.

In 2020 Faouzia produced a single on the corona pandemic called Wake Me When It's Over with a video that she recorded at home. In April 2020 I Dare You (كنتحداك) by Kelly Clarkson was released , on which she sings the Arabic version of the title I Dare You together with Clarkson . As part of the single release, Clarkson recorded an English and Arabic version as well as a French, German, Spanish and Hebrew version with artists in these native languages and sang in this language himself.
