Buildering (also Urban Climbing , building climbing , facade climbing or bouldern Urban is called) a form of climbing and bouldering in urban areas on artificial structures and man-made objects and buildings.

Legal

In general, when it comes to building, especially on private property, one moves in the same problematic legal situation as with roofing because of the property owner's house rules .

  • Damage to someone else's property, e.g. B. by attaching fixed fuses,
  • climbing on listed buildings,
  • the obstruction of passers-by,
  • blocking the sidewalks and
  • influencing road traffic through falls, material or moves

are factors that can cause problems with local or city government, property owners and the police. Builders and climbing at jump height on walls, bridges and similar objects are usually not affected.

In most cases, like bouldering, climbing is done without safety and rope. Only a crash pad , a kind of soft floor mat , is placed under the climber to protect them from injury. In large cities there is occasionally the opportunity to officially climb on old buildings, bunkers and bridges. Such "systems" are known above all in Berlin at bunkers and in Munich at the Eichenau climbing bridge. It is difficult to estimate the number of athletes involved in building. Many use building for training, and young people in particular appreciate this sport because you can usually build in the immediate vicinity and the sport is free of charge.

In 2008, in which the 2nd World Building Championships also took place, the first building guide for the cities of Mainz and Wiesbaden was published . In addition to legal spots, climbing areas in the region are also described in the guide. It was last updated in 2017.

It is difficult to say where the center of the scene is at the moment. A few years ago Mainz and Wiesbaden were still considered centers. The Halle / Leipzig, Munich and Vienna regions are now also known for their large building scene.

In 2017 a building guide for Germany was published, which describes the basics of the sport, climbing and bouldering possibilities in 61 cities.

Events

The first world championships in building took place in Cologne in 2006 , the next in October 2008 in Essen . Christian Benk from Isny from Allgäu won both times .

In 2009, Italian builders founded the Boulder Street Association to give the emerging movement in Italy a formal structure and to act as an organizer and to support others in this regard. The Street Boulder Contest is now a large and very popular event that is not only supported by the community, but also co-financed along with other well-known outdoor companies.

The Urban waters cup has been taking place regularly in Vienna for a number of years , and many building fans also meet in summer to compete together at the city's spots.

The growing interest in sport building is evident not only from the increasing number of athletes but also from lectures on the topic, such as in the Frankfurt section of the German Alpine Club or in CaféKraft in Nuremberg.
