The Fatih Mosque ( German  conqueror mosque , derived from Fatih Sultan Mehmet ) in Memmingen is the mosque of the Turkish-Islamic Union of the Establishment for Religions e. V.

history

Since 1962 there has been a notable settlement of fellow citizens of Islamic faith in the old imperial city of Memmingen. In 1976, a prayer room for the provisional practice of the cult and observance of prayer times for practicing Muslims is proven in Memmingen. With the support of the city of Memmingen, the 6,500 square meter site on Schlachthofstrasse was bought. A 330-square-meter mosque without a minaret or call to prayer was created from a former office building . There are separate rooms and entrances for women . German and Turkish are the lingua franca in the mosque. Sebahattin Kasimfirtina is the chairman of the Turkish-Islamic community in Memmingen.

In 2009 a youth board was elected for the first time in the history of the Memmingen mosque.

Inauguration of the mosque

The mosque was inaugurated on May 26, 2008 in the presence of the Minister for Construction of the Turkish Government Faruk Nafız Özak and the Turkish Consul General Rifat Köksal. In his address, the religious attaché of the Turkish Consulate General, Mustafa Temel, urged respect for every mosque, church and synagogue . The chairwoman of the parish council of St. Josef , Hildegard Niggl, expressed the solidarity of the Catholic Church with a blessing. The Protestant Dean Kurt Kräß spoke of the knowledge of believing people - regardless of their nation and race - about the greatness of God. Lord Mayor Dr. After his greeting, Ivo Holzinger received commemorative posters (certificates), as did particularly deserving members of the Turkish-Islamic Union. All speeches were translated simultaneously.
