history

Lindau harbor

In the 1970s, the Italian and trained carpenter Ferdinand Andreatta, who comes from northern Italy and lives in Bludenz , sank a small replica of the Madonna of Fátima on the three-country border between Germany, Austria and Switzerland . In 1979 Andreatta initiated the first small ship procession . The processions got bigger and bigger over the years. The ships start in Rorschach , Bregenz and Lindau . Up to six ships with three to four thousand pilgrims take part in the procession and rally. The event starts at eight in the evening and ends at ten. During the journey with the ship, the rosary and devotions are prayed and Marian songs are sung. At the meeting point in the middle of Lake Constance, a well-known clergyman gives a short speech and gives the pilgrims the blessing and the traditional herbal blessing. Then a five-minute fireworks display is set off in honor of Our Lady. On each of the chartered Lake Constance excursion ships, there is a local band and at least one pastor. The ships are festively decorated with flowers. A cross and a statue of Mary from Fatima are placed on the bow of the ships.

In 1999 Ferdinand Andreatta asked the management of the Wigratzbad prayer center to attend the event. The 2010 guest of honor, Bishop Charles Caruana from Gibraltar, was unable to attend due to illness. Instead of him, the Feldkirch diocesan bishop Elmar Fischer gave the address at sea and appealed to a united and strong Europe in faith. In 2010 a ship with pilgrims from Russia attended the event.
