Bah-Barrow is the daughter of the businessman Abdoulie Bah and his wife Isatou Jallow and belongs to the Fulbe ethnic group .

She grew up with two siblings in Basse and attended St. George's School . After graduating from high school, she moved to Banjul. On March 20, 1997, she married Adama Barrow , who has been President of the Gambia since January 2017. Barrow married another woman , Sarjo Mballow-Barrow. They have a son, Mamadou Barrow, and a daughter, Taibou Barrow.

In 2000/2001 she worked in the sales and marketing department of the mineral oil company Elton Oil , then until 2008 for the mobile operator Africell .

First lady

In the run-up to the 2016 presidential election , she supported her husband's election campaign. Analogous to the previous President Yahya Jammeh , Barrow determined that only his first wife should take on the role of first lady.

In her role as First Lady, she supports charities and aid organizations and founded the Fatoumatta Bah Barrow Foundation (FaBB) on May 1, 2017 , whose goals are to combat poverty and support the sick, women and children.

In February 2018, the foundation entered into a partnership with the medical company Merck KGaA to fight infertility in women.

In August 2018, it was announced that on December 18, 2017, a sum of US $ 752,000 (33 million dalasi ) had been transferred from a Hong Kong account to the Foundation's account. According to media reports, US $ 746,000 of this sum was transferred to the Portuguese airline White Airways to charter a flight to China. This raises the question of the connection with President Barrow's trip to China on December 19, 2017. The Chinese electrical company TBEA , which has transferred the sum, is about to sign a contract with the state-owned National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) for the construction of electricity transmission networks. The board of the foundation announced the clarification of the process.

In September 2019, the foundation asked the government to take a stand on the transfer so as not to damage Bah-Barrow's reputation and reputation. The money was intended as financial support for a trip by the president and was transferred to the foundation's account, as this enabled direct access to the sum. If the money had been transferred to a government account at the central bank, the government would not have been able to access it for three working days, as the president was traveling at that time.
