Faya-Largeau or Faya ( Arabic فايا) is an oasis city in northern Chad with around 14,000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the Borkou region and before 2008 was the capital of Borkou-Ennedi-Tibesti .
The climate around Faya is very dry and hot ( desert climate ).
history
The city, which was originally called Faya , was renamed Largeau after the conquest of Borkou by Étienne Largeau in 1913 . It got its old name back in the 1970s. In the 1970s, a development project promoted date production in Faya-Largeau. The city is connected to other cities through Faya-Largeau Airport and has a small power station.
When the Aouzou Strip was captured in 1975, Libya took Faya-Largeau. 1980 Hissène Habré gained control of the city, 1981-1982 Goukouni Oueddei . In 1983 it fell again to Libya, until it withdrew in 1987.
