Fazal Haq Chaliqyar

Fazal Haq Chaliqyar ( Pashtun فضل حق خالقيار; * 1934 in Afghanistan; † July 16, 2004 in the Netherlands ) was an Afghan politician.

Political life

He was Prime Minister of the Mohammed Najibullah government of the Republic of Afghanistan from May 8, 1990 , when he replaced Sultan Ali Keschtmand , who had been appointed Vice President two days earlier. He was also Minister of Finance. On October 8, 1991, he announced peace talks between the government and the mujahideen , but the rebels rejected them.

On December 11, 1990, President Najibullah opened a National Commission under the leadership of Prime Minister Fazal Haq Chaliqyar. Since the USSR, which supported the regime, collapsed in 1991, Najibullah could no longer hold out and on April 18, 1992, the troops of Akhmed Shah Massud and Abdul Raschid Dostum captured the capital Kabul . On April 25, 1992, the handover to a transitional government of the Mujahideen took place. Chaliqyar went into exile. On July 6, 1992, Abdul Sabur Farid Kuhestani became his successor.

He died on July 16, 2004 in the Netherlands at the age of 70.
