Federal Correctional Institution, Loretto
The Federal Correctional Institution, Loretto ( FCI Loretto ) is a US federal prison located near the city of Loretto , Pennsylvania . It has the medium security level and only houses men.
The prison is located in western Pennsylvania between Altoona and Johnstown, east of the larger city of Pittsburgh . Essentially, it detects prisoners awaiting trial in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania , the local federal court.
history
FCI Loretto was originally a Franciscan monastery that was converted into a prison. Originally it had a very low security level, the first 15 prisoners sat for minor offenses and helped the monks with their daily work.
