Federico Della Ferrera

Federico Della Ferrera (born July 3, 1887 in Turin ; May 19, 1965 ibid) was an Italian cyclist and motorcycle racer as well as engineer , entrepreneur and founder of the Fratelli Della Ferrera company .

Career

Federico Della Ferrera was a cyclist at a young age and took part for u. a. for Italy participated in the cycling competitions of the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens . While he was eliminated in the preliminary round in the 1000 m time trial and the 5000 m track, he finished sixth in the 333.33 m time trial over one lap.

After the brothers Federico and Giovanni had been involved in bicycle and engine construction for a long time , they founded the Fabbrica di Motocicli Fratelli Della Ferrera company in their hometown of Turin in 1909 , which produced motorcycles and, in 1924, a cycle car . The brothers designed the machines at least partially themselves, and Federicio Della Ferrera even patented a two-stroke engine in the USA in 1925 .

Della Ferrera took part in numerous motorcycle races with the self-built machines in the 1910s and early 1920s and was particularly successful in both hill climbs and circuit races in his Piedmontese homeland . Between 1912 and 1922, he celebrated three victories each at the Colle Torinesi ( Sassi - Superga ) and Susa - Moncenisio mountain races .

Due to the Second World War , Della Ferrera ceased motorcycle production in 1942. Federico Della Ferrera died in his hometown of Turin in 1965 at the age of 77.
