Federico Roberto Edwards (born January 25, 1931 in Santa Fe , † November 13, 2016 ) was an Argentine football player.
Career
Federico Edwards began his football career at Unión de Santa Fe in his hometown. In 1951 he moved to Buenos Aires to join the Boca Juniors . At the Boca Juniors, Edwards, who played in the position of defender, played alongside other Argentinian football greats of the time such as Antonio Rattín , Antonio Angelillo and Francisco Lombardo . Despite this good team in the jersey of the Boca Juniors, Edwards was only once Argentine football champion with the club. In the 1954 season, a first place in the Primera División could be achieved with four points ahead of CA Independiente . Most of the remaining years of his time at Boca Juniors, however, were dominated by great rival CA River Plate , who won five Argentinian football championships in the 1950s. Edwards played for the Boca Juniors until 1959. After that he was without a club for a year before he joined CD Green Cross from Chile . In 1961, Eliseo Mouriño, another Argentinian player , played for the club, which no longer exists . However, the latter could not play a game for Green Cross, as he previously died in a car accident. Federico Edwards played another season at Green Cross and ended his active career in 1961.
Without ever having played an international match, Federico Edwards was appointed to the squad of the Argentine national soccer team for the 1958 World Cup in Sweden . In the tournament, the Argentine selection failed after the preliminary round, after losing to Germany and Czechoslovakia and only won once against Northern Ireland .
