Eliseo Víctor Mouriño (born June 3, 1927 in Buenos Aires , † April 3, 1961 in Nevado de Longaví ) was an Argentine football player. He took part in the 1958 World Cup with the national team of his home country .
Career
Club career
Eliseo Mouriño began his football career in 1948 with CA Banfield in the city of the same name in the province of Buenos Aires . At Banfield, which at the time was not one of the largest clubs in Argentina and would not win its first championship title until half a century later, Mouriño stayed until 1953 when he joined the Boca Juniors from the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. With the Boca Juniors he won the Argentine championship once. In the 1954 season, the team around Mouriño, Francisco Lombardo and Julio Musimessi took first place in the Primera División with four points ahead of CA Independiente from Avellaneda . However, winning the title in 1954 was the only national championship that Eliseo Mouriño could win in his career. In 1960 his time with the Boca Juniors finally ended and he signed a contract in Chile with CD Green Cross , a now defunct club from Santiago de Chile . There was no longer any use for his new club. Eliseo Mouriño died before his first game for Green Cross in a plane crash on LAN-Chile Flight 210 , in which eight of the club's players were killed. He was only 33 years old.
National team
In the Argentine national soccer team Eliseo Mouriño was used 21 times between 1952 and 1959. Argentina's national coach Guillermo Stábile , himself a member of the Argentine team at the first soccer world cup in 1930 , called him into the South American squad for the 1958 soccer world cup in Sweden . In the tournament, however, he was not used. Meanwhile, his team was eliminated in the preliminary round as the bottom group in a group with Germany , Northern Ireland and Czechoslovakia . Eliseo Mouriño had previously participated in two South American championships with Argentina , each of which was made victorious by the Argentinian selection. At the Copa América 1955 in Chile they came first in front of hosts Chile , four years later in Peru they took first place in front of the reigning soccer world champions Brazil .
