Federico Luppi

Federico Luppi (born February 23, 1936 in Ramallo , Buenos Aires Province , † October 20, 2017 in Buenos Aires ) was an Argentine film and theater actor . From June 2003 he also had Spanish citizenship .

Life

Federico Luppi was born the son of Italian immigrants in Ramallo in northern Argentina. Luppi made his film debut in 1964 in Rodolfo Kuhn's comedy Der Abgott . The film took part in the competition at the 15th Berlin International Film Festival . A few years later, Federico Luppi was in front of the camera for Leonardo Favio's directorial debut El romance del Aniceto y la Francisca . The multiple award-winning film was very successful with critics and audiences and made its actors and director known throughout the country overnight. From then on, Luppi was one of the most successful actors in Argentina. He was best known as a performer in various horror films. He gained international fame through his collaboration with Guillermo del Toro , for whom he was in front of the camera several times. In 2005 the actor made his directorial debut with the film Pasos , which tells the story of three married couples, played by Alberto Jiménez, Ana Fernández, Eva Cobo, Susana Hornos, Ginés García Millán and Fabián Vena.

In addition to his work in the film industry, Federico Luppi also appeared in theater productions. After a break of more than ten years, the actor returned to the stage in 2010 with the play El Guía del Hermitage by Herbert Morote and played at the Teatro Oficial Juan de Vera in Corrientes .

Federico Luppi's portrayal of the mustached antiques dealer in Cronos by director Guillermo del Toro received very positive reviews from film critics. His portrayal of Dr. Casares' next collaboration with the director on The Devil's Backbone was hailed as "heartbreaking" by critic Ian Smith. Federico Luppi was one of the best known and most successful actors in Argentina. His work has also received positive international recognition. Director Diego Arsuaga counted him among the "greatest in Argentine cinema".
