(2421) Nininger is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 17 October 1979 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station (IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.

The asteroid was named on January 17, 1982 on the occasion of his 95th birthday after the American meteorite researcher and founder of the American Meteorite Museum Harvey Harlow Nininger .
