Federico Ughi

Federico Ughi (born October 11, 1972 in Rome ) is an Italian jazz and improvisation musician ( drums , voice, sampling ).

Live and act

Ughi grew up in Rome and learned the recorder and guitar as a child before switching to drums at the age of twelve. After working with his own bands in Italy, he moved to London in 1993 , where he took lessons from Paul Bley . The first recordings ( Unspecifications ) and his debut album The Space Within (Slam) were made in 1998 with the trio of baritone saxophonist Matthew F. Morris . In 2000 he moved to New York, where he has since worked in the local jazz and improvisation scene. a. with William Parker , Daniel Carter , Ras Moshe , Kirk Knuffke , DJ Food , Steve Dalachinsky , Chris Welcome and Phil Durrant . He also leads his own quartet and the Ensemble Songs for Four Cities , with which he has released several albums. In the field of jazz he was involved in 38 recording sessions between 1998 and 2018.
