The Fedor Krause Medal has been awarded by the German Society for Neurosurgery since 1956, initially every four years, and finally on an irregular basis as decided by the society. The awards are linked to commemorative lectures given to Fedor Krause , who gave the medal its name. In addition to the alternately awarded Otfrid Foerster Medal, the medal is the society's highest honor . According to the foundation , the Fedor Krause Medal is intended to honor “neurosurgeons and representatives from related fields who have made outstanding contributions to neurosurgery in both surgical and diagnostic fields.” The award is now considered one of the most important within the international societies for neurosurgery .
