Felix Hnat (2015)

Felix Hnat (born July 15, 1982 in Vienna ) is an Austrian animal welfare activist and chairman of the Vegan Society Austria (VGÖ).

Hnat was the second defendant alongside Martin Balluch in the Wiener Neustädter animal rights trial . He was not legally acquitted on all charges on May 2, 2011. Parts of the trial were repeated and on May 27, 2014 he was finally acquitted on all charges.

Life

Hnat studied economics at the Vienna University of Economics . He completed his studies in 2006, his thesis was on "Agricultural subsidies from an animal law perspective". He “had to” break off his doctorate in economic sociology due to the animal welfare process.

He lives vegan , is unmarried and has no children.

Commitment to animal rights and the vegan way of life

Hnat began his engagement as an activist with the Verein Gegen Tierfabriken (VGT). His protests against fur sales and, above all, contacting fashion houses such as Kleid Bauer led to his involvement in the animal welfare process.

Immediately after the first not legally binding acquittal, Hnat worked for a year in Berlin as a project manager for the environmental protection project GV-Sustainable, where he advised large kitchens.

Since 2005, Hnat has been the chairman of the Vegan Society Austria, where he is also responsible for public relations. He is also Vice President of the “European Vegetarian Union”. As chairman of the Vegan Society Austria, he is also the main legal organizer of various events: Veganmania Summer Festival in Vienna, Veggie Planet Fairs, Vegan Planet Fair in Vienna and the Vienna Vegan Ball.

Hnat was a speaker at the IMF in Lindau on Lake Constance, the VDB baking colloquium, the industry conference of Austrian communal catering and an event in the EU Parliament.
