Career

Felix Wouters began his professional career on October 8, 1933 at the age of 18. In his first fight he knocked out his compatriot Kid Theo in the first round. In his next 19 fights, he celebrated 17 wins. On 19 December 1934 he met in Brussels on the experienced German Franz Dübbers , whom he defeated on points after ten rounds. In his next fight he won the Belgian welterweight championship on January 16, 1935 in Brussels by winning points over Nestor Charlier .

On November 11, 1935 Felix Wouters was the first time a chance at the Sports Palace in Berlin against Gustav Eder to fight for the European welterweight. He came against the iron hard Eder up to the 9th round, in which he lost by knockout. As early as July 23, 1936, he had another chance to win the European welterweight title. This time he took advantage of this opportunity by winning points after 15 laps over Dutchman Leen Sanders . On July 25, 1936, Felix Wouters lost his Belgian championship title in Antwerp by losing a point over 15 rounds to Al Baker , but retained the European championship title, which was not the focus of this fight.

Felix Wouters then defended his European title three times in a row. First he defeated Al Baker on November 25, 1936 in Brussels over 15 rounds on points, then he also won on points on November 11, 1937 in Brussels over the Italian Cleto Locatelli and finally he fought on February 16, 1938 in the Palais des Sports in Brussels tied in a big fight against Gustav Eder.

Felix Wouters lost his title on December 26, 1938 in Milan by losing points after 15 rounds against the Italian Saverio Turiello . He had to face a tough fight on March 22, 1939 in Brussels. He boxed against the eventual world middleweight champion Marcel Cerdan . After a partly even fight, the bigger physique of Cerdan prevailed in the end, who won the fight just on points.

On December 11, 1940, Felix Wouters won in Brussels by a knockout victory in the 14th round over Maurice Vergauwen once again the Belgian welterweight championship. He kept this title until the end of 1944, when he gave it up without a fight because there were no more boxing opportunities in the final phase of the Second World War . Before that, he had fought some excellent fights. On April 15, 1942 he defeated z. B. the French ex-European middleweight champion Edouard Tenet in Brussels on points.

After Felix Wouters had won nineteen of twenty fights from his last title win on December 11, 1940 to February 19, 1944 and boxed once, he suffered defeats in his last three fights against top-class opponents. On April 2, 1944, he lost the revenge match against Edouard Tenet in Paris on points, then he was defeated on April 23, 1944 in Brussels by the Dutch middleweight champion Luc van Dam by knockout in the 3rd round and on February 20 In 1946 he was defeated by the future French European welterweight champion Robert Villemain in the 7th round by technical knockout after a two-year break from fighting .

After this fight, Felix Wouters ended his boxing career. All in all he was very successful and fought for several years in the top European class of welterweights. In 80 fights he had to leave the ring as a loser only thirteen times. Only top experts can refer to such a result.
