Detlef Felken

Detlef Felken (born October 28, 1957 ) is a German lecturer , historian and program manager at the cultural studies CH Beck publishing house in Munich .

Career

Felken studied in Bonn History and American Studies and was the end of the 1980s with a dissertation on Oswald Spengler to Dr. phil. PhD . After completing a two-month internship at CH Beck Verlag in 1989 , he started working there as a lecturer in 1991. In 2000 he replaced Ernst-Peter Wieckenberg as head editor of the cultural studies publishing house. In his program work, he supervises contemporary intellectuals and historians such as Saul Friedländer , Timothy Snyder , Johannes Fried , Arnold Esch , Jürgen Osterhammel or Thomas Piketty and suggests topics that critically reflect on global, European and more recent German history. So in 2017 he campaigned for the translation of Ibram X. Kendis Branded: The True History of Racism in America . Under his aegis, the publisher published Nelson Mandela's prison letters on his 100th birthday and, from 2010, started the publication of Ulrich Herbert 's series "European History in the 20th Century". Felken lives in Munich.
