History of the brewery "zum Felsen"

The company was founded in 1928, but the brewery's roots go back to the early 19th century. Johannes Daniel Gloßner, born in 1783, can be traced back to the parent company with the house name “Salzner” as the host and brewer. In 1851 his son Daniel took over the brewery restaurant and his widow married Georg Salzner from Hilpoltstein in 1866 . Their son continued to run the brewery restaurant and also ran the post office with stables. In 1928 his son Georg Michael Salzner founded the name "Zum Felsen" together with Wilhelm Gloßner . In the same year the brewery was relocated to its current location on the northern outskirts. In 1938 Wilhelm Gloßner married the daughter of Georg Michael Salzner. The company buildings were renovated and expanded from 1954. Today Werner Gloßner and his son Walter run the rock brewery.

Solar beer

A special feature of the brewery is that in winter it traditionally produces natural ice on an ice frame above its rock cellars in order to relieve the cooling in summer . In 2007, the Felsenbräu beers were the first to be officially designated as “solar beer”, because production is carried out entirely with renewable energy sources . The certification is checked every two years by the Technical University of Munich .
