Ferdi Tayfur

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ferdi Tayfur (actually: Ferdi Tayfur Turanbayburt , born November 15, 1945 in Hürriyet Mahallesi , Adana ) is a Turkish lyricist, composer, arabesque singer and actor. He has worked in various film and television productions. In Turkey he is considered a cult figure with a very large fan base. Most of them call him Ferdi Baba (father Ferdi).

life and work

Ferdi Tayfur comes from the southern Turkish city of Adana (from the district of Hürriyet Mahallesi), grew up in poor conditions and became a half-orphan at the age of six when his father died.

After his first, unsuccessful album (1968), he quickly became known with the second "Çeşme" (Eng .: fountain) (1976). Over the years he has appeared in a large number of Turkish film and television productions. He writes and composes his own songs. Almost all of his songs are full of sadness. They are sad, slow and caring songs about love, loneliness etc. Since most of Ferdi Tayfur's songs are “particularly” sad, his songs form a “separate” area in Turkish classical music / arabesque.

Ferdi Tayfur has released more than 30 albums. He gave major concerts in Turkey, for a short time also for Turkish guest workers living in Europe (Germany (including 1980 in the Dortmund Westfalenhalle, which was sold out with 17,000 spectators, or 11,000 in the Cologne sports hall in 1981), Switzerland, Austria, France) etc. Also in America he gave concerts (including in New York). He owns his own record company " FerDiFON " and works in the real estate business. He is also active as a director and has published a book ( Şekerci Çırağı ) ( Eng : The confectioner's apprentice) in which he reports from his life. In 2007 he published his second book ("Yagmur Durunca") (Eng. When the rain stops). He is also called Kral Ferdi (German King Ferdi) or "Ferdi Baba" (German father Ferdi).

Ferdi Tayfur was the life partner of the Turkish actress Necla Nazır , whom he met while filming his film Ceşme .

Along with Orhan Gencebay , Müslüm Gürses and İbrahim Tatlıses , he is one of the four main characters in Turkish music from the 1960s to 1980s.

His Gülhane Park concert in 1987 in Istanbul, with 125,000 spectators, is considered the largest concert in Turkish music history. In 1992 he made a comeback with Emmoğlu (a Turkish kinship for "cousin", more precisely the son of his paternal uncle), in which he set the record for best-selling albums, which was only broken in 1999 by Tarkan ( Şımarık ).
