Ferdi Vierklau

Ferdinand "Ferdi" Vierklau (born April 1, 1973 in Bilthoven ) is a former Dutch football player . The defender played for various clubs in the Eredivisie and CD Tenerife in the Primera División . He played twice in the Dutch national team .

Club career

Vierklaus began his professional career in 1991 with FC Utrecht , for whom he already had five season appearances at the age of 18. In the following four seasons he was a regular in the honor division. After five years with a total of 117 appearances, he went to Vitesse Arnheim for one season before moving to the Primera División in the summer of 1997. He stayed with CD Tenerife for a year and a half before moving to Ajax Amsterdam in the winter of 1998/99 . He won the 1999 cup with Ajax and won the double and the Supercup in 2002 . Internationally, he played for Ajax four times in the UEFA Cup and in 2001 played in the Champions League qualification. He could never really assert himself in Amsterdam and after 38 appearances in three and a half seasons he moved to the amateur club VV RUC.

National team

After Vierklau had already been part of bond coach Guus Hiddink's squad against Brazil in August 1996 , he made his first international appearance on October 5, 1996. In the 3-1 victory of the Dutch in the World Cup qualification in Cardiff against Wales , he played from the start. In the 71st minute of the game, he was substituted on 1-0 for Wales against Pierre van Hooijdonk , who equalized just one minute after being substituted on and again scored the opening goal three minutes later.

In the following games Vierklau belonged to the squad of Elftal , but sat as a supplementary player five times only on the bench before he came on June 4, 1997 in the 2-0 win in Johannesburg against South Africa for his second use. After this game he no longer appeared in the national team.
