Ferdinand August Meißner

Ferdinand August Meißner (born September 6, 1778 in Bautzen , † March 24, 1855 in Dresden ) was a German lawyer and archivist .

Life

Ferdinand August Meißner was the son of the state lawyer of Upper Lusatia Christian Gottfried Meißner and his wife Christiana Wilhelmina, née. Pistorius born in Bautzen. After studying at the University of Leipzig , he acquired the title of Baccalaureus in both rights in 1799 and settled as a lawyer in Dresden the following year.

In 1808 he entered the civil service as financial procurator , became vice financial adviser in 1814 and finally in 1818 court and judicial councilor of the Saxon state government. After the state government was dissolved by the introduction of the Saxon constitution , Meißner moved to the state administration, where he was involved in reforming the municipal constitution.

In December 1833 he was given the management of the Secret Archives and the Secret Cabinet Archives in order to implement the restructuring of the state archives. This culminated in the establishment of the main state archive as the main and central archive of the Kingdom of Saxony .

After his work as director he returned to his legal career and in 1836 became president of the Dresden Court of Appeal , which he presided over until his death.
