Ferdinand Brusch (born May 4, 1941 ) is a former German soccer player who was active in the GDR league from 1961 to 1974 .

Athletic career

With four appearances in the 1961/62 season for the company sports community (BSG) unit Greifswald in the second-class GDR league , the 20-year-old striker Ferdinand Brusch began his career in higher-class GDR football . In the 1962/63 season he was already part of the team with 21 appearances in 26 league games and attracted attention as a successful goalscorer with eight goals. He proved his goal instinct again in 1963/64 when he was the top scorer of the BSG unit with ten goals. He defended his status as a regular player by participating in 29 of the 30 GDR league games that have now been played. Brusch played his last season for Einheit Greifswald in 1964/65 with 25 league games and five goals.

About the stations Motor Stralsund and the Army Sports Community Forward Perleberg , both of which played in the third-class district league , Brusch came to the top division FC Hansa Rostock at the beginning of the 1967/68 season . There Brusch played for two seasons exclusively in the 2nd team, which was represented in the GDR league. As a striker, he was only part of the player base to a limited extent, as he paused for a long time in both seasons and so only came to 19 league games in which he scored four or two goals.

For the 1969/70 season, Brusch returned to Greifswald , where the former BSG unit continued to compete in the GDR league under the new name BSG Kernkraftwerk Nord . He was used again in attack, played 29 of the 30 league games in his first season and scored two goals. In the next two seasons Brusch paused in one half of the season for several weeks and came in 1970/71 in 26 league games only on 19 and 1971/72 only on 14 appearances in 22 league games. He scored two or three goals. It was not until 1972/73 that he was able to complete all 22 league games, in which he came back to three goals. He also scored three goals in his last season as an active football player. At the age of 32 he was used again in 18 of the 22 league games and scored his mandatory three goals again. Ferdinand Brusch then ended his career as a competitive athlete, in which he had played 219 GDR league games and scored 42 goals.

At the beginning of the 1975/76 season, Brusch took over the training of the GDR league team from KKW Nord Greifswald. He managed to lead the team to a safe midfield position for three years. It was not until the 1978/79 season that Greifswald narrowly escaped relegation and Brusch was then replaced by his former teammate Gerd Bekendorf .
