Ferdinand Ernst von Waldstein (envoy)
Ferdinand Ernst von Waldstein ( baptized name: Ferdinand Ernst Maximilian Rudolf , * 1619 ; † February 20, 1657 in Prague ) was Imperial Plenipotentiary for Bohemia at the Westphalian peace negotiations in Münster and Osnabrück.
Life
Origin and family
Ferdinand Ernst von Waldstein grew up as the son of Count Maximilian von Waldstein († 1654, Imperial Privy Councilor) and his wife, Countess Katharina von Harrach, together with his younger brother Karl Ferdinand (1634–1702) in the ancient noble family von Waldstein . The Prague Archbishop Johann Friedrich von Waldstein was his half-brother and came from his father's first marriage to Marie Polyxena Thalenberg . On December 17, 1644, Ferdinand Ernst married Countess Filibertra Maria di Madruzzo (1627–1649). The marriage remained childless. His marriage to Eleonore von Rottal (1629–1655) on October 10, 1650 resulted in four children, including the son Ferdinand Ernst Joseph (1654–1708).
Career and work
After thorough training, von Waldstein learned the foreign languages Latin, Italian, Spanish and French and after a long educational trip through Belgium, Germany and Italy became imperial councilor and Bohemian chief chamberlain. As the emperor's agent, he took part in the peace negotiations in Münster and Osnabrück. In July 1647 he left the congress and served as the imperial envoy in the following years. At the beginning of March 1652, at the Electoral Saxon court, together with Johann Krane , he prepared the Reichstag in Regensburg from 1653–1654.
