Ferdinand Heberlein
Christian Otto Ferdinand Heberlein (born March 26, 1863 in Gossau SG ; † February 23, 1925 in Zurich ) was a German - Swiss metallurgical chemist and industrialist .
Life
Ferdinand Heberlein was born as the son of the Braubacher hut and Gossau mill owner Viktor Heberlein. He attended school in Gossau and from 1876 in Lahnstein . After graduating from the industrial school in Nuremberg and the Freiberg mining academy, he worked from 1883 to 1900, initially as a chemist and from 1887 as its director at the lead and silver works Pertusola at La Spezia .
In 1900 he and Thomas Huntington founded the Huntington-Heberlein company in London to utilize a process they had invented for roasting sulfur-containing copper, zinc and lead ores. In 1907 he was appointed director of the Metallbank and Metallurgical Society in Frankfurt am Main . From 1915 until his death he was a member of their board of directors. From 1915 he lived in Zurich, where he was chairman of the German Chamber of Commerce . In 1920 he received the citizenship of Zurich . He was co-owner and from 1921 to 1925 board member of the Heberlein dye works in Wattwil . Ferdinand Heberlein was a member of the Corps Franconia Freiberg .

- 1911: Awarded an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Wroclaw
- 1922: Appointed honorary citizen of the Bergakademie Freiberg
- 1924: Awarded the Georg Agricola Memorial Medal
