Ferdinand Hofstädter

Ferdinand Hofstädter (born January 5, 1948 in Salzburg ) is a German physician and university professor .

education and profession

Hofstädter was born in Salzburg and studied medicine at the University of Innsbruck between 1966 and 1973 . He began his professional career in 1973 as an assistant doctor at the pathological-anatomical institute of the University of Innsbruck and completed his habilitation in 1980. He took up a professorship in Aachen in 1984 and became senior physician at the Institute for Pathology at RWTH Aachen University . He came to the University of Regensburg in 1989 , where the Faculty of Medicine was just being set up. In 1989 he became director at the Institute for Pathology at the University of Regensburg, which he built up and headed until his retirement in 2013. He also founded the Regensburg Tumor Center in 1991 and is its chairman. Furthermore, he was from 1992 to 1994 Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and 1992-1995 Speaker of the DFG - Research Training Group "Therapeutic Research Oncology". In addition, he has been a member of the editorial board of the specialist journal Virchows Archiv since 1994 , became deputy chairman of the board of the Association of German Tumor Centers (ADT) in 1994 and was Vice Rector of the University of Regensburg from 1994 to 1996.

Hofstädter was from 2000 to 2006 board member of the German Society for Pathology and from 2001 to 2005 deputy spokesman of the SFB 585 "Immune regulation in the gastrointestinal tract". From 2002 to 2010 he was a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Pathology and from 2003 to 2007 Dean of Research at the University of Regensburg. Since 2004 he has also been chairman of the Working Group on German Tumor Centers, and since 2005 he has been a lecturer at the Bavarian Elite Academy. In addition, he has been deputy chairman of the Professional Association of German Pathologists since 2006 and chairman of the German Society for Pathology from 2005 to 2006 .

In 2014/2015 he worked as Vice Rector for Medicine at the University of Linz in order to lead the establishment of the medical faculty . His scientific focus is on oncology, tumor center, colorectal tumors and urogenital tumors.
