Ferdinand Joly

Ferdinand Joly (born June 4, 1765 in Salzburg , † October 20, 1823 in Elsenloh near Tittmoning ) was an Austrian folk poet and composer .

Life

Ferdinand Joly was a son of the court confectioner Joseph Alexius Joly. He began studying at the University of Salzburg, but was expelled in 1783 and then lived as a traveling poet. According to the Austrian Biographical Lexicon , he wrote, among other things, mocking songs , peasant comedies and shepherd games, but also funeral and church songs, and was also active as a painter. About 20 pieces of Jolys have been preserved. August Hartmann published his folk plays in Leipzig in 1880 .

Jolly "A sudden death in the open air reached" according to ADB on the Einödhof Elsenloh. He is said to have been described as a student on his grave cross.

The phrase " My dear Scholli " may go back to Ferdinand Joly and his Huguenot surname.
