Carl Ferdinand Klitzing (born December 30, 1807 in Rostock , † April 29, 1883 in Plau am See ) was a German administrative lawyer and judge in Mecklenburg. For decades he was the mayor of Plau.

Life

Ferdinand Klitzing was the son of the Rostock businessman Heinrich Christian Klitzing (1772–1845). From 1827 he studied law at the University of Rostock . After the exams he worked as an auditor in Toitenwinkel (1833) and as a civil servant and administrator (1841). On July 21, 1842 he was appointed city judge and mayor of the city of Plau. In his almost 41-year tenure in both positions, he played a key role in shaping Plaus as a health resort. For example, the city school and the city hospital were built, the Klüschenberg ("Klitzinghöhe") was designed and a rail link to Güstrow was set up. Klitzing was also a supporter of club life and the beginnings of the Plauer summer resort. The Councilor Dr. jur. Klitzing died on April 29, 1883 in Plau. Today the Klitzingstrasse in Plau bears his name.

Klitzing was married since 1841 to the Rostock lawyer daughter Auguste Scharenberg (1808-1904), a cousin of the Neustrelitz lawyer Theodor Scharenberg . An older sister, Annette Klitzing, married Ernst Alban , a famous pioneer of steam engine construction and an honorary citizen of Plau. His son Karl Klitzing (1848–1933) married Emma Leverkus (1848–1902), a daughter of the Oldenburg secret archivist Wilhelm Leverkus (1808–1870). The Rostock city architect Theodor Klitzing (1812-1883) was Ferdinand's younger brother.
