Prince Ferdinand Maria von Savoyen-Carignan , full name Ferdinand Maria Albert Amadeus Philibert Vincenz von Savoyen-Carignan (born November 15, 1822 in Florence , † February 10, 1855 in Turin ) was an Italian nobleman from the House of Savoy and from 1831 the first Duke of Genoa.

Life

Ferdinand was the second son of King Karl Albert of Sardinia-Piedmont (1798–1849) and his wife Princess Maria Theresa of Tuscany (1801–1855), daughter of Grand Duke Ferdinand III. and Princess Luise of Naples-Sicily .

In the campaign against the Austrians in 1848 and 1849, he commanded a division in the main Piedmontese army. During the Battle of Novara on March 23, 1849, he commanded a successful counterattack that briefly led to the retaking of Olengo.

Marriage and offspring

On April 22, 1850, Duke Ferdinand married Princess Elisabeth of Saxony (1830–1912), the second daughter of the Saxon King Johann I and Princess Amalie Auguste of Bavaria in Dresden .

The marriage had two children:
