Ferdinand Movers

Ferdinand Movers (born January 31, 1909 in Horrem , † January 26, 1989 ) was a German gynecologist.

Life

Movers studied medicine in Vienna, Rostock, Freiburg im Breisgau and Bonn. In 1934 he received his doctorate in Bonn with the thesis on over-dosed tuberculin application in the manner of Ponndorf's skin vaccination . His clinical teachers were Ernst Leupold in Cologne, Robert Schröder in Leipzig and Hans Naujoks in Cologne at the University Women's Clinic in Cologne. He completed a specialist training in gynecology . In 1942 he was appointed professor for obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Cologne . In 1948 he took over the management of the obstetric and gynecological department of the St. Anna Hospital in Cologne-Lindenthal . In 1964 he became chief physician of the women's clinic and medical director of the newly built Heilig Geist hospital in Cologne-Weidenpesch . In 1975 he retired.

For many years he was chairman of the Cologne Gynecological Society. He was committed to the establishment of cancer counseling centers as well as the introduction of cancer screening examinations and antenatal check-ups. He published over 50 scientific papers on endometriosis .

Movers got involved in building a Catholic hospital for the Rosary Sisters in Irbid , Jordan .

He had been a member of the Catholic student union KaV Norica Vienna since 1928 and later joined the KDStV Nordmark (Rostock, Karlsruhe) Essen and KDStV Ripuaria Freiburg im Breisgau .
