Ferdinand Otto von Westerholt (* November 7, 1682 , † December 10, 1741 in Westerholt Castle ) was an electoral chamberlain and privy councilor .

Life

Origin and family

Ferdinand Otto von Westerholt grew up as the son of Bernhard Heinrich Burckhardt von Westerholt zu Westerholt and Alst and his wife Henrika Johanna Christine Mechtilde von Aschebrock zu Malenburg together with his brothers Johann Matthias and Johann Friedrich Burchard and his twin sister Anna Maria Margaretha (godchild of the Prince-Bishop ) in the ancient Westphalian noble family von Westerholt . On February 20, 1714 he married Maria Agnes von Ketteler zu Sythen in Sythen with papal dispensation . She was the daughter of Wilhelm Bernhard and Elisabeth von Gysenburg zu Gysenburg and widow of Wilhelm Goswin Anton von Galen zu Assen .

Career and work

In 1703 Ferdinand Otto went on a country trip to Prague with his brother Johann Matthias . On December 31, 1719 he was appointed chamberlain to the Electorate of Cologne . From March 22, 1724 he was active as a real secret council . Ferdinand Otto was sworn up to the knighthood of Münster . With his brother Johann Friedrich Burchard, he set up a family fideicommiss and majorat on February 22, 1726 over all goods that fall to the eldest son or daughter. The agreement also contained the determination of the future family name “von und zu Westerholt-Gysenberg” and the family seat “Westerholt”. After his death, his son Josef Clemens (1720–1766) succeeded him and took over the property.
