Johann Matthias von Westerholt (baptized name: Johann Matthias Engelbert Friedrich Burchard ) (born June 24, 1685 in Westerholt Castle ; † September 6, 1729 in Westerholt) was electoral councilor and councilor in Hildesheim.

Life

Origin and family

Johann Matthias grew up as the son of Bernhard Heinrich Burckhardt von Westerholt to Westerholt and Alst and his wife Henrica Johanna Christine Mechtilde ash Brock times castle with his brother Ferdinand Otto and his twin sister Anna Maria Margaretha (goddaughter of the Prince Bishop ) in the ancient Westphalian noble family of Westerholt on .

Career and work

In 1701 Johann Matthias received a cathedral praise in Hildesheim . Two years later he went on a country trip to Prague with his brother. He was appointed Droste von Bilderlahe in 1712. In the following two years, during the War of the Spanish Succession, he was employed as a diplomat for the Archbishop of Cologne, Archbishop Joseph Clemens , who was in exile in Valenciennes . In 1719 and 1723, Johann Matthias received further cathedral preachers in Münster ( waiver by Canon Franz Wilhelm von Wolff-Metternich zu Wehrden ) and Halberstadt . He was sworn up to the knighthood of Münster and was subdeacon and councilor in Hildesheim. In the election of the provost of the cathedral in 1726, Matthias did not look very happy. First he agreed to support Jobst Matthias von Twickel . When this did not want to meet his demands, he switched to the side of the canon of Merveldt.
