Ferdinand Petzl (born October 19, 1819 in Munich ; † September 15, 1899 there ) was a German architectural painter.

His father was employed by the royal tax cadastre commission.

Ferdinand Petzl received his first painting lessons from his brother, Joseph Petzl , who was sixteen years his senior . He then became a student of Friedrich Anton Wyttenbach , attended the polytechnic and, from July 6, 1835, the Royal Art Academy in Munich .

Petzl mainly dealt with architectural painting, under the influence of Wilhelm Gail , Michael Neher and Angelo Quaglio .

After graduation he went on study trips, where he earned his living with portrait painting. He visited Franconia, Swabia and Lower Bavaria, and later Switzerland, Tyrol and Northern Italy. He brought back watercolors and oil paintings from the hikes, which also formed the basis for steel engraving albums. Today his works are valuable documents of many lost or rebuilt monuments.

Some of his works appeared in the gazebo . Almost every year the artist exhibited his works at the Munich Art Association . Petzl collected ancient art objects and works by painters who were friends. At the age of seventy-two, Ferdinand Petzl climbed the Wendelstein to paint mountain landscapes.
