Ferdinand Simon Gassner

Ferdinand Simon Gaßner (born January 16, 1798 in Vienna , † February 25, 1851 in Karlsruhe ) was a violinist , composer and music writer. His father was Simon Gassner, a painter.

Gaßner received his artistic training in Karlsruhe, played at the National Theater in Mainz from 1816 and became music director in Gießen in 1819 . In 1826 he became a member of the Karlsruhe court orchestra and in 1830 court music director in Karlsruhe, where he died on February 25, 1851. In addition to several compositions, he published a number of writings on music, including: Score knowledge (Karlsruhe 1843, 2 vols.) And a universal dictionary of music (Stuttgart 1847).

Gaßner was a Freemason and as such, among other things, the first master of the chair of the Leopold zur Treue lodge in Karlsruhe, founded in 1847 .
