Ferdinand Skaret

Ferdinand Skaret (born September 10, 1862 in Iglau , Moravia , † January 3, 1941 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( SDAP ) and trade unionist .

Life

Skaret completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter after elementary school and worked as a carpenter in Vienna from 1880. He joined the professional association of carpenters and became union secretary and editor of the "Tischler-Zeitung". He was also the secretary of the Social Democratic Labor Party in Vienna. In 1892 he became chairman of the newly founded woodworkers' association. He was a close confidante of Victor Adler and played a key role in developing the SDAP into a democratic mass party .

From 1906 to 1923 he was a member of the Vienna City Council (from 1919 club chairman), and in 1918 he was a city councilor for a short time. He was also active in the executive branch of the Socialist International and held international trade union functions. From 1907 to 1918 he was a member of the Reichsrat , 1918/19 a member of the Provisional National Assembly, 1919/20 of the Constituent National Assembly and from 1920 to 1930 a member of the National Council .

After his death, he was buried in the cemetery of the Simmering fire hall (Department 6, Ring 1, Group 5, Number 86). The grave has since been abandoned.
