Ferdinand Georg Karl Freiherr von Cronenbold (born July 29, 1837 in Worms , † August 31, 1904 in Darmstadt ) was an Austrian officer, most recently Feldzeugmeister , of Hessian descent.

biography

The son of Major General Georg Casimir Cronenbold from Greater Hesse graduated from the Austro-Hungarian Technical Military Academy , from which he was retired on August 20, 1856 and assigned as second lieutenant, 2nd class of the engineering team, and later first lieutenant in the 2nd regiment of the genius weapon.

With rank from March 1, 1866 captain , he was from 1869 as a staff officer, then in the newly formed 67th Hungarian Infantry Regiment under Feldzeugmeister Joseph Ritter von Schmerling . On August 1, 1873 he received the imperial approval to wear the Imperial Russian Order of Saint Stanislaus 3rd class .

With rank from May 15, 1878, he advanced to lieutenant colonel at the general command in Lemberg . In August 1881 (P.-V.-Bl. No. 39 of August 31), Cronenbold's enlistment for general staff service in infantry regiment No. 41 was ordered, then with the rank of Colonel in the General Staff Corps from May 8, 1882 and chief of staff at the military command in Kaschau and 1883-1884 Chief of Staff of the 6th Corps.

Cronenbold was on April 29, 1888 (rank of May 1 of the year) major general and commander of the 34th Infantry Brigade in Arad , then with rank of November 1, 1892 field marshal lieutenant . In this role he led the 15th Infantry Division in the 6th Corps and also took part in the major maneuvers in Bohemia and Hungary in 1894.

By the very highest resolution of Emperor Franz Joseph I , the general received the Austrian baron status on May 31, 1898, with a diploma from July 7 of that year, in Vienna. The promotion to Feldzeugmeister with title and character took place on July 1, 1898.

Among other things, the baron was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Austrian Leopold Order and the Order of the Iron Crown 3rd Class.
