Ferdinand von Kerssenbrock (born March 2, 1676 in Borgholzhausen , † October 23, 1754 in Osnabrück ) was Provost and Metropolitan Vicar in Osnabrück.

Life

Ferdinand, Baron von Kerssenbrock zu Brinke, was born in 1676 as the son of Rembert Jobst von Kerssenbrock and Wilhelmine von Korff-Schmising at Brincke Castle . He studied law in Würzburg for two years and became cathedral chapter in Osnabrück in 1689 ( emancipation in March 1696 ). In April 1698 he was named as a subdeacon. In 1701 he enrolled at the University of Siena. 1706 he became cathedral capitular in Münster (14 July 1705 possession, 16 July 1706 emancipation) and in 1711 cathedral capitular in Trier (until 1728), in 1719 cathedral provost in Osnabrück and at the same time metropolitan vicar of Archbishop Clemens August of Cologne. In 1728 he became a member and in 1730 President of the Privy Council in Osnabrück, in 1723 provost of the St. Johann monastery there. On November 16, 1747 he was appointed governor of the Cologne bishopric in Osnabrück. Under his governorship and management, the baroque redesign of the Osnabrück Cathedral began in 1750.

He died on October 23, 1754 in his official residence at Schloss Eversburg and was buried in St. Peter's Cathedral. His epitaph, designed by Johann Conrad Schlaun and Johann Christoph Manskirch , has been preserved there to this day (southern transept, west wall). Since his brother Matthias Caspar von Kerssenbrock had died childless in 1746, the Catholic Kerssenbrock line of Brincke expired with Ferdinand von Kerssenbrock. He had therefore bequeathed his goods to Friedrich Ferdinand von Korff-Schmising, a nephew on his mother's side, in 1754.
