Manskirch came from a well-known family of artists who worked in particular for the Rhenish electors. His brother was the painter Jakob Manskirsch.

Johann Christoph can be verified as an artist from 1715 when he worked for the court of Baden-Durlach . Through Johann Conrad Schlaun , Manskirsch came to the court of the Cologne electors in Bonn. Manskirsch later moved to Münster . As the court sculptor of Clemens August I, he worked in various ways in the Rhineland and especially in Westphalia. He particularly excelled himself with the furnishings of Schloss Clemenswerth . The hunting scenes of the Hirschberger Tor were created by him in 1753. Manskirch was also involved in decorating the Erbdrostenhof in Münster and the Rüschhaus house in Nienberge near Münster. He also worked in the Bad Iburg Abbey , the St. Paulus Cathedral in Münster and the grammar school church in Meppen . He also created groups of children who embody the seasons at Ahaus Castle .
