Ferdousi Priyabhashini ( Bengali ফেরদৌসী প্রিয়ভাষিণী Pheradausī Priẏabhāṣiṇī ; February 19, 1947 in the Khulna division - March 6, 2018 in Dhaka ) was a heroine of the Bangladesh War who turned to sculpture in her later life . In 2010 she was awarded the Shadhinata Padak , the highest civil order in Bangladesh. In 2016 she became one of 123 recognized freedom fighters in Bangladesh.

Life

Ferdousi Priyabhashini was born as Ferdousi Preeti Bisini in 1947 in the Khulna district in the Khulna division. She married at the age of 16, later calling this connection a sin of youth. The marriage lasted eight years. The time of separation and the time of the Bangladesh War coincided closely. Ferdousi Priyabhashini suffered the atrocities committed by the Pakistani armed forces during the genocide in Bangladesh . She herself said in a 2015 interview that there was no form of torture that she did not have to endure. After Bangladesh gained independence , Ferdousi Priyabhashini started a new family with a new government employee, Ahsan Ullah.

Ferdousi Priyabhashini lived in Jessore from 1984 to 1988 . During this time she began to work as a sculptor. At first she mainly worked with bamboo and other natural materials. Her goal was first to beautify her own house. Ferdousi Priyabhashini had her first solo exhibition in 1991 in Jessore. Numerous other solo exhibitions followed in Dhaka, including in 1999 in the National Museum of Bangladesh and in 2002, 2004 and 2010 in the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts.

In 2014, Ferdousi Priybhashini published an autobiography called Nindito Nandan .
