Heinrich Stegmann

Heinrich Stegmann (born March 25, 1846 in Bückeburg ; † November 28, 1901 in Braunschweig ) was a German engineer, director and partner in the signal construction factory M. Jüdel & Co. in Braunschweig. He was a close friend of the poet Wilhelm Raabe .

Life

Stegmann was the oldest child of a tax officer in Lippe. He grew up in Hagenburg am Steinhuder Meer , where he attended the village school. He completed a business apprenticeship in Hanover . Stegmann went to Braunschweig, where he married in 1870 and pursued various professional activities. In the second half of the 1870s he joined the & Co. Signalbaufabrik M. Jüdel one. In this company he worked as an engineer, director and partner until his death in 1901.

Stegmann had lived in the Krähenfeld district of Braunschweig since 1878 at Salzdahlumer Strasse 6, where he was one of Wilhelm Raabe's neighbors and friends. Both were active in the sociable association of clothing sellers . Stegmann wrote a work published in 1893 on the history of the Fürstenberg porcelain factory in the 18th century, which Wilhelm Raabe used as inspiration and template for the story Hastenbeck .
