life and career

Since the early 1890s, Boros has appeared in various theaters in Hungary. She became a well-known actress and played at the Burgtheater in Budapest , among others . She moved to London in 1903 and then to the United States in the late 1900s. She was seen several times on New York's Broadway between 1911 and 1927. In addition, she appeared in many plays with Bertha Kalich , a legend of the Yiddish theater in the USA.

In the late 1920s, Boros moved to Hollywood and played many matronly roles there - such as mothers, grandmothers, aunts, cooks and housekeepers of European origin. In the classic film The Little Caesar , she played the mother of a murdered gangster in 1931. Boros was a successful supporting actress until the mid-1930s, but then suffered a fall that left her unable to work for some time. Because of the treatment costs, she had to sell a large part of her property in order to survive. She made a comeback in 1939 with an almost unanimous appearance, which was nevertheless highlighted by many voices, as Irene Dunne's landlady in Restless Love . Substantial supporting roles in comedies such as The Foundling Mother , Christmas in July and Once Upon a Honeymoon followed . Until her last film Lost Game (1949), in which she played the grandmother of Cyd Charisse, she was seen in a total of over 50 cinema productions.
