The Ferme Bussierre is a former annex of the castle Pourtalès , located in the Strasbourg neighborhood Robertsau is on the verge of Robert Auer forest.

history

The inscription on the gable facing rue Kempf shows that the farm ( ferme ) was built in 1876 by the Alsatian architect Louis-Michel Boltz at the request of Baron Alfred Renouard de Bussière. Alfred Renouard de Bussière was the father of Mélanie de Bussière, who later became Countess of Pourtalès. The main building, whose style is neo-Gothic , consists of red sandstone and is flanked by a tower. It is surrounded by crenellated gables, as are the other outbuildings, which together form a larger courtyard.

Conservation Center

Today the former farm houses the nature education center of Strasbourg ( fr. Center d'initiation à la nature et à l'environnement ). It was set up in the former barn in 2001 and opened to the public in 2003. The facility is managed by the SINE Strasbourg Initiation Nature Environnement association.

The nature center has set itself the goal of promoting and coordinating measures for nature and environmental education for all people in the entire metropolis of Strasbourg .

The point is to discover the biological diversity in the immediate vicinity (both in urban and periurban areas), to become aware of how rich and at the same time sensitive the natural heritage is. But it's also about introducing debates on environmental issues and getting the audience to rethink.

In order to achieve its goal, the nature conservation center knows how to rely on an important network of associations.

In the nature center, works of art related to nature are also exhibited at regular intervals in order to attract an even wider audience.

The SINE association consists of three colleges:

The French water agency , which is responsible for the catchment area of the Rhine and Maas on French soil, also supports the nature conservation center after the area of responsibility of the water agencies was expanded to include biodiversity.

A program of activities is available every year.
