Fermont is a city in the Canadian province of Québec . The city is located in the regional county municipality ( municipalité régionale de comté ) Caniapiscau and was founded in 1955 after iron ore deposits had been discovered in the area of Côte-Nord .
The ore mined in Fermont is transported on a private railway line to Port-Cartier , processed into pellets and shipped from there.
