Fernand Clare

Fernand Clare (born October 15, 1911 ; † 1971 ) was a French jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , clarinet , arrangement , composition ).

Clare first worked on the Côte d'Azur , u. a. as accompanist to the American pianist Herman Chittison . After a tour with Philippe Brun through France and Switzerland, he stayed with Brun, with whom he made his first recordings in Basel. In 1941/42 he was a soloist with The Lanigiros (recordings for Columbia ). In the spring of 1945 he returned to France to work as an arranger for various large ensembles. In Paris he led an ensemble with which he a. a. performed at the Paris Olympia and recorded several titles such as “Boogie Woogie” and “Re Bop Dance” for the Cantoria and Odeon labels. Georges Grenu also played in his band . During these years he worked a. a. as a composer of songs ("Si tu le veux", with Max Vany) and as a film composer for the film Chaleurs d'été (1959, directed by Louis Félix ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 18 recording sessions between 1941 and 1955.
