Fernand Oubradous

Fernand Oubradous (born February 12, 1903 in Paris ; † January 6, 1986 there ) was a French composer, bassoonist and music teacher.

The son of a bassoonist studied at the Conservatoire de Paris , where he won first place in the bassoon. As early as 1927 he founded the Trio d'anches de Paris with Myrtil Morel , solo oboist of the Concerts Colonne , and Pierre Lefebvre , solo clarinetist of the Concerts Lamoureux , for whose first concert Henri Martelli composed a piece. The group has performed across France, Switzerland and Germany and premiered works by composers Albert Roussel , Darius Milhaud , Jacques Ibert , Reynaldo Hahn , Pierre-Octave Ferroud , Georges Auric , Henry Barraud and Daniel Lesur .

In 1934 Oubradous became principal bassoonist of the Concerts Walter Straram and the Orchester national de la Radiodiffusion francaise , in 1935 of the Paris Opera Orchestra and in 1936 of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire .

From 1944 to 1969 Oubradous taught chamber music at the Conservatoire de Paris , and from 1954 to 1958 at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. He was also chief conductor of the Association des Concerts de Chambre de Paris from 1944 to 1979 . In 1959 he founded the Académie Internationale d'été de Nice , of which he was president until his death.

Oubradous was honored as an Officer of the Legion of Honor , Commander of the Ordre des Arts et Lettres and Officer of the Ordre du Mérite . For his recordings of Weber and Mozart's bassoon concertos, he received the Grand Prix du Disque in 1938 and 1939 .

He composed works for wind ensembles in various chamber music settings, pieces for flute, harp and cello, an overture for large orchestra and an orchestration of Johann Sebastian Bach's Musical Offering . He also edited a collection of classical and contemporary French music.
