Fernando Chica Arellano

Fernando Chica Arellano (born June 24, 1963 in Mengíbar , Jaén province ) is a Spanish clergyman and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

On April 19, 1987 Fernando Chica Arellano was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Jaén . In 2000 he began his preparation for the diplomatic service of the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy . In 2002 he entered the diplomatic service of the Vatican again as Secretary of the Apostolic Nuncio to the Central African Republic (2002-2006) and Permanent Representative of the Holy See to the United Nations in New York City (2006-2007).

On February 12, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations , the United Nations World Food Program and the International Fund for Agricultural Development in Rome to succeed Archbishop Luigi Travaglino .
