Fernando Corena
Fernando Corena (born December 22, 1916 in Geneva , † November 26, 1984 in Lugano ) was a Swiss opera singer ( bass ).
Life
He initially studied theology , but after the advice of the conductor Vittorio Gui, E. Romani trained his voice in Milan. In 1947 he made his debut in Trieste as Warlaam in Boris Godunow and soon sang at numerous international opera stages. In 1953 he became a member of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 1965 he sang Osmin in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Salzburg Festival . This made him one of the most important bass buffos in Italian opera.
The following complete recordings have been published mainly by Decca and RCA: Don Giovanni , Don Pasquale , The Italian Woman in Algiers , The Barber of Seville and Gianni Schicchi .
