Ferocactus cylindraceus is a species of the genus Ferocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet cylindraceus means 'columnar' or 'cylindrical'.
description
Ferocactus cylindraceus grows individually and rarely sprouts. The spherical to cylindrical shoots reach heights of up to 3 meters with a diameter of 50 centimeters. There are 20 to 30 mostly humped, occasionally wavy ribs that are notched across. The differently colored, somewhat flexible thorns are white, red, yellow or brown. Some of the four to seven, 5 to 15 centimeter long central spines are round, the others are flattened. Occasionally they are curved or hooked. The 15 to 25 hair-like to strong radial spines often merge into the central spines.
The funnel-shaped flowers are yellow and sometimes tinged with red. They reach a length of 3 to 6 centimeters and have a diameter of 4 to 6 centimeters. The up to 3 centimeters long, spherical, yellow fruits are fleshy and open with a basal pore.
